Description
Your English-speaking guide will meet you at the agreed meeting point and leave for your country tour to Martinique.
In the minibus, together with a maximum of 18 people, you make your way to the small municipality of Les Trois-Îlets, located to the south. A 30-minute drive takes you to a well-known artists’ village located on the site of a former Jesuit monastery. Today, several local artists work on your goods in small workshops and shops. You will have some time to admire the colorful craftsmanship of the pottery workshops or to discover one of the historic buildings of the village, for example the old brickworks.
Continue to Les Anses-d’Arlet, a charming village in a bay on the southwest coast of Martinique. Admire the Catholic church of St Henry with its colorful bell tower or go directly to the adjacent white sandy beach. In your free time you can relax under palm trees or swim in the turquoise waters.
Well rested, continue your drive and reach a beautiful viewpoint that grants you a fantastic view of the famous Diamond Rock. The landmark is actually a small island, but looks like a huge shimmering stone off the coast in the right sunlight – a great photo opportunity!
Just a little further on, you will make your next stop at the historic monument Cap 110. The memorial was erected here in memory of the slaves who died in a shipwreck off Martinique. Take in the imposing white statues, which are also intended to remind you of the dark history of slavery in Martinique.
Finally, visit the rum distillery “Trois Rivières”. Even if you no longer produce rum on the website, you can still get an overview of the old process. In addition, you will learn interesting facts about the company’s rums and of course have the opportunity to taste the spirit at a tasting.
Then return to Fort-de-France and return to your cruise ship in time.
We wish you an exciting trip to Fort-de-France!
Important note: Most shops in Martinique are closed on Sundays and public holidays. This also applies to the small handicraft and souvenir shops in the artists’ village. Nevertheless, a stop is planned to visit the brick exterior buildings and enjoy a beautiful view.
